|Yichen was born in a Qinhuangdao, a city located in northeast of China, which has one of the most beautiful coast views in China. After lived there for 18 years, she attended the University of Nottingham (Ningbo) and got her bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering. In 2014, she joined McCutcheon’s group in UConn for her master degree study and research.
In Prof. McCutcheon’s group, Yichen’s research is focusing on nanofiltration membrane application in water softening. With her interest in technical analysis of feasibility of nanofiltration process in industry, she’s now working on optimization of UConn water system, especially the water pretreatment system for HRSG boiler in UConn Central Utility Plant (which produce heat and power for campus). She introduces a nanofiltration process for softening instead of the existing ion exchanger as pretreatment for the existing RO process to reduce the salt accumulation in the whole water cycle. Her work involves system design and technical analysis for this optimization.
Out of lab, she’s a big fan of snow sports like skiing and snowboarding. She also enjoys traveling a lot and visiting museums in different cities.
